Miniature Ball Bearing [2010-09-16]

The most popular types include Ball bearings, Needle roller bearings and Thrust bearings. Here is the science behind the most common types of bearings.

Ball Bearings-This is one of the most common types and is also the least expensive. They can be found in everything from roller skates to DVD players and other everyday household objects.

The function of a ball bearing is to reduce overall friction by placing metal balls in-between two components. The miniature ball bearing will make an unusual noise if they have reached the end of their lifespan or need increased lubrication.

This type is known for being extremely durable. However, although ball and roller bearings are known to stand the test of time they won't last forever. Proper maintenance is required to ensure the smooth running of sports equipment and vehicles.

Roller Bearings-This is another popular type of bearing and is used in conveyor belts and machinery. Cylindrical in shape they are available in a wide range of sizes to suit multiple purposes. A roller bearing can withstand more weight than the ball bearing and is therefore used in a number of types of heavy duty machinery as opposed to sports equipment.

Thrust Bearings-These types can be separated into two types, fluid and magnetic. This type is unsuitable for heavy loads.

Needle Bearings-This type of bearings are long and thin in appearance and are most commonly used in engines. You can find them in aircraft controls and hydraulic pumps. Heavy duty vehicles rely on these products to work efficiently.
